Izumo Taisha is one of Japan's Top Three famous and most important Shinto shrines (other two are Ise Jingu in Mie Prefecture and Atsuta Shrine in Nagoya, Aichi). The shrine's real name is Izumo Oyashiro. Izumo Taisha worships Okuninushi (大国主大神), the Shinto god of marriage and Kotoamatsukami, the very first Shinto gods born in heaven even before Japan was created.

Matsue Castle 松江城

Built in 1611, Matsue Castle is Japan's latest and fifth castle whose main tower tower has been designated as a National Treasure (on July 8, 2015). Amid a complex of moats, stone walls, and reconstructed turrets, the main castle tower largely retains its original 17th-century construction and stands five stories high. One of the San'in Region's major sights and one of the best castles along the Sea of Japan coast. Easily accessible by a short bus ride from JR Matsue Station. (This album shows over 250 photos of the castle.)

Nicknamed Tsuwano O-Inarisan, Taikodani Inari Jinja is one of Japan's Top Five Inari shrines noted for many vermillion torii gates along the path to the shrine. Almost like a sister shrine to the famous Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. The shrine worships Uka-no-Mitama, a deity associated with food and agriculture, and the goddess Izanami. It is Shimane Prefecture's second most popular shrine after Izumo Taisha. About a 20-min. walk from JR Tsuwano Station.

Adachi Museum of Art 足立美術館

Adachi Museum of Art is celebrated for its beautiful Japanese garden and superb artworks especially by Yokoyama Taikan. And in such a rural place. Amazing. The museum was founded in 1970 by Adachi Zenko (1899–1990), a native of Yasugi. He was a successful local merchant as a textile wholesaler and real estate business. He collected Yokoyama Taikan paintings and he thought they went well with the museum's beautiful landscape garden. Free shuttle bus ride from JR Yasugi Station. https://www.adachi-museum.or.jp/en/
