Izumo Taisha is one of Japan's Top Three famous and most important Shinto shrines (other two are Ise Jingu in Mie Prefecture and Atsuta Shrine in Nagoya, Aichi). The shrine's real name is Izumo Oyashiro. Izumo Taisha worships Okuninushi (大国主大神), the Shinto god of marriage and Kotoamatsukami, the very first Shinto gods born in heaven even before Japan was created.
