Mashu Maru was a train ferry connecting Aomori Station and Hakodate Station. It linked the Japan National Railway line across the ocean strait between Honshu and Hokkaido. It was built in 1964 and sailed from 1965 to March 1988 when the Seikan railway tunnel opened. This is the second Seikan ferry to be named "Mashu Maru." It opened as a museum ship in Hakodate Port in 2003.
