Fussa's biggest event is the Fussa Tanabata Matsuri. The 59th festival was held during Aug. 6-9, 2009. I visited on Aug. 9, 2009. Besides the colorful streamers decorating the west side of JR Fussa Station, there were mini parades by local school children, samba dancers, and military band. Also see my YouTube video here.

During a weekend every Aug., Yokota Air Base opens the base to the public as a gesture of friendship with the host country. Military planes from the US Air Force and Japan Air Self-Defence Forces are on display, as well as food booths and stage entertainment. Airborne demonstrations are also a crowd favorite with parachuting and flybys by planes on the second day. These photos were taken on Aug. 23, 2009. Also see my YouTube video here.
