Kasai Rinkai Park 葛西臨海公園

Waterfront park which provides Tokyo with an ocean beach. Opened in 1989, this large park also has a bird sanctuary built in 1994, a large Ferris wheel built in 2001, and Tokyo Sea Life Park, an aquarium. Great for bicycling and roller skating. Near Kasai Rinkai Koen Station on the JR Keiyo Line.

Gyosen Park + Edogawa Heisei Garden + Shizen Zoo + Ukita Park 行船公園・江戸川平成庭園・自然動物園・宇喜田公園

Gyosen Park consists of a Japanese garden called Edogawa Heisei Garden and a small zoo called Shizen Zoo. Nice pocket of greenery and cute animals for the kids. Near Kasai Station on the Tozai subway line. Free admission. Zoo open 10 am - 4:30 pm (Open 9:30 am on weekends and national holidays, closed at 4 pm from Nov. to Feb.). Closed on Mon. (open if a national holiday).
Next to Gyoen Park is Ukita Park with some cherry blossoms.

Shinkawa River Senbonzakura Cherry Blossoms 新川千本桜

The three-kilometer Shinkawa River has over 700 cherry trees (20 varieties, mainly Somei-Yoshino) for everyone to enjoy in spring. Edogawa Ward's relatively new cherry blossom spot named "Shinkawa Senbonzakura" (Shinkawa River of 1,000 Cherry Blossom Trees). Very pleasant riverside walk with no crowds. Nearest station is Funabori Station on the Toei Shinjuku subway line.

Komatsugawa Cherry Blossoms 小松川千本桜

Komatsugawa Cherry Blossoms (Komatsugawa Senbon-zakura) are along the west side of Arakawa River. They line the pedestrian and cycling path on the riverbank. Very nice. Near Higashi-Ojima Station on the Toei Shinjuku Line.

Koiwa Iris Garden 小岩菖蒲園まつり

A large patch along the Edogawa River comes alive with purple, white, and pink irises in late May and June. The Koiwa Iris Garden provides some excitement and eye candy during the drab rainy season. The irises were mainly donated by residents and the garden was opened in June 1982. It has about 50,000 iris plants. The garden is a 5-min. walk from Edogawa Station on the Keisei Line or 25 min. walk from Koiwa Station on the JR Sobu Line. Free admission.

Funabori Tower 船堀タワー

Funabori Tower is 103 meters high and gives great views of Arakawa River and Edogawa-ku Ward/City. Right in front of Funabori Station on the Toei Shinjuku subway line. Part of the Tower Hall Funabori banquet hall.

Edogawa-ku Fireworks 江戸川区花火大会

The Edogawa Ward Fireworks display is one of Tokyo's largest with a massive attendance of 900,000 people in both Edogawa Ward and neighboring Ichikawa city in Chiba. They are spread out along the riverbank of Edogawa River. Held on the first Sat. of Aug. at 7:15 pm to 8:25 pm. If weather is bad, it is held on the next day.
