The Shiga LakeStars basketball team in the bj League is Shiga's first pro sports team. Their professional debut game was held on Oct. 11, 2008 at Shiga Prefectural Gym in Otsu. They played against Osaka Evessa, a strong team and last year's champion. The team consists of both Japanese and foreign (mostly American) players including Bobby Nash from Hawaii. The head coach is Robert Pierce.

On Jan. 11, 2009, the Shiga LakeStars pro basketball team played against Fukuoka Rizing in one of the most exciting games so far. The game ended as a tie and went into overtime. Unfortunately, the LakeStars lost by only 3 points. The game started at 2 pm at the Shiga Prefectural Gymnasium in Otsu.

Kyoto Hannaryz is the thirteenth franchise in the bj-league pro basketball league in Japan. These photos show their pro debut on Oct. 3, 2009 against the Shiga Lakestars in the 2009-2010 season's opening game held at Kyoto City Gymnasium at 2 pm. They lost their debut game, but came back and beat the Lakestars the next day.

On Oct. 24, 2009, the Shiga Lakestars played against Osaka Evessa at the Moriyama Shimin Taiikukan gymnasium. It was a very close and exciting game as Osaka was a strong team. But the Lakestars came out on top for their second weekend of home games for the 2009-2010 season.

The Shiga Lakestars played a home game in Hikone for the first time on Oct. 31, 2009 (Sat.). They played the Takamatsu Five Arrows and won 93-79. Special guest was Hiko-nyan, Hikone's official mascot and Shiga's favorite cat.
