O-sugisama Sacred Cedar Tree207 viewsThis tree existed even before the castle was built over 650 years ago. It stood 24 meters tall, higher than the castle tower. It absorbed hits by lightning in place of the castle and also protected the castle tower from high winds. The tree then came to be worshipped as castle guardian.

The tree was severely damaged during the Ise-wan typhoon in 1959, and died in 1965.
