SAN DIEGO (Aug. 21, 2008) Sailors man the rails aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) during the ship's departure from Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego. George Washington departed San Diego en route to Yokosuka, Japan, where it will replace the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) as the Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier.
