Municipal Mergers
On Sep. 30, 2004, Nara had 10 cities (-shi; 市), 20 towns (-machi; 町), and 17 villages (-mura; 村). By March 31, 2006, this changed to 12 cities, 15 towns, and 12 villages. Heisei Municipal Mergers between April 1, 1999 and March 31, 2006 are as follows:
