Maibara Station (米原駅) is one of Shiga's main gateways with major train lines and Shiga's sole Shinkansen station in Maibara. JR Tokaido Main Line, Biwako Line, Hokuriku Main Line, Tokaido Shinkansen, and Ohmi Railways Main Line all stop at Maibara. It's also a transfer station between the Tokaido Main Line and Hokuriku Main Line. Maibara is a terminal station for the Hokuriku Main Line. Trains coming from Nagoya Station (Aichi) or Ogaki Station (Gifu) on the Tokaido Main Line and trains coming from Kyoto Station often terminate at Maibara. The station building underwent a complete renovation in April 2009.
West Exit (Nishi-guchi):
Find local buses going to Nagahama/Kinomoto, a taxi stand, Toyoko Inn hotel, Friend Mart supermarket (old Heiwado Dept. Store demolished), and Shiga Theatre for Cultural and Industrial Development (Shiga Kenritsu Bunka Sangyo Koryu Kaikan).
