Julius L.C. Pompe van Meerdervoort
POMPE van MEERDERVOORT, Julius L.C. (1829-1908) Holland. Dutch medical doctor posted at Dejima in Nagasaki from 1857 to 1862.
Dejima was a Dutch trading post during the Edo Period and Japan's tiny window to the rest of the world during its self-imposed isolation.
He taught at a medical school and his course included the wet-plate collodion process. He was part of Japan's "Dutch learning." His students included UENO Hikoma and FURUKAWA Shunpei.
