John Reddie Black
BLACK, John Reddie (1827-1880) Scotland, UK. Went to school in London, England and moved to Australia in 1854.
A business venture failed in Australia, and he moved to Yokohama in 1863. Co-manager of The Japan Herald in 1865.
Launched The Japan Gazette in 1867 in Yokohama. Publisher of The Far East photo illustrated newspaper from 1870 to 1878 in Yokohama. It was the first newspaper in Japan to use albumen prints (mostly of Japan). (2000.12.15)
