USUI Shuzaburo 臼井 秀三郎 (18??-??) Shimoda, Shizuoka Pref. Early Japanese photographer in the late 19th century.
Apprenticed under SHIMOOKA Renjo in 1867. Also learned from American photographer John Douglas from Dec. 1876 to Mar. 1877.
Opened a photo studio in Yokohama around 1877. Became partners with his agent David Welsh in the firm Yokohama Photographic Company (Yokohama Shashin-sha) which was next door to rival Japan Photographic Company which used to be F. Beato & Co.
Sold souvenir photos of Japan to foreign tourists at competitive prices. (2000.12.15)
