As of March 31, 2006, Nagasaki has 13 cities (-shi; 市), 10 towns (-cho; 町), and 0 villages (-mura; 村). It also has one subprefecture (-shicho 支庁).

Cities

The major cities are Nagasaki city (capital), Hirado, Isahaya, Omura, Sasebo, and Shimabara. *Asterisked sites are in English.

Municipal Mergers

On Feb. 29, 2004, Nagasaki had 8 cities (-shi; 市), 70 towns (-machi; 町), and 1 village (-mura; 村). By March 31, 2006, this changed to 13 cities, 10 towns, and 0 villages. Heisei Municipal Mergers between April 1, 1999 and March 31, 2006 are as follows:
