KIZU Kokichi 木津 幸吉 (1830-1895) Niigata Pref.

Said to be Hokkaido's first commercial photographer.

In 1859, opened a tabi (socks) shop in Hakodate, Hokkaido. One day, he was called to the Russian Consulate to repair clothing. Then learned photography from people there such as Iosef Antonovich Goshikevitch, a Russian consul.

Opened a photo studio in 1864 in Hakodate. Also opened a studio in Tokyo in 1869. (2000.12.15)
