After you enter the exhibition area, first you see drawings of famous people from Fukagawa.

Then you see a dramatic bird's eye view of the recreated neighborhood of Sagacho, Fukagawa. The entire neighborhood is indoors.

The lighting inside the museum also changes to reflect the time of day. This is night time.

Cat on the roof. Meow is what you first hear in the museum. Its name is "Mamesuke." Actually a robot cat whose head can move up and down.

Edogawa River. Visiting Shibamata will enable you to appreciate and understand the local settings used to film the Tora-san series.

Many movie scenes were filmed along this riverbank.

To Yagiri no Watashi

The boats operate on weekends. Fare is 100 yen one way.

This form of public transportation dates back to the Edo Period when there were 14 locations in Tokyo where such boats operated. Only this one now remains. Boarding the Yagiri Watashi boat. 矢切の渡し

Yagiri no Watashi boat crossing. After the two-minute river crossing, you will be in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture. You can then tour various temples and parks in Matsudo and neighboring Ichikawa on foot. There are signs along the way to guide you.

Don't ride the ferris wheel if you're afraid of heights. It is very high and the wind blows through.

The spacious park is an oasis. Lots of greenery, a beach, bicycling roads, birdwatching stations, and an aquarium.

In the museum lobby is a special exhibition about Yokozuna Taiho, one of the greatest yokozuna in history. His sumo stable (Taiho Beya) was in Koto.

Gyosen Park consists of the Heisei Garden and Shizen Zoo. Nice pocket of greenery and cute animals including a petting zoo. Free admission, near Kasai Station on the Tozai subway line. Park entrance.

Edogawa Heisei Garden was built in 1989, the first year of the Heisei Period. It occupies the northern part of Gyosen Park.

Gyosen Park was donated to Tokyo in 1933 by a local politician whose had a business named "Gyosen." In 1950, Edogawa Ward took over the park's management. In 1983, a small zoo opened.

Needless to say, the subway/trains stations were jammed with people by 5 pm. This is when I got off the train at Shinozaki Station on the Toei Shinjuku subway line on Aug.1, 2009.

Still in Shinozaki Station heading for the exit. Koiwa Station on the JR Sobu Line must also have been crowded.

After getting to the top of the riverbank, this is the spectacle I came to see and photograph.

Some 900,000 of humanity gathered here for the Edogawa-ku Fireworks in Aug.

And you think your largest soccer stadium can hold a lotta people. Come see here.

It was a lot more crowded than the last time I saw these fireworks years ago.

The Edogawa Ward Fireworks display is one of Tokyo's largest with a massive attendance of 900,000 people in both Edogawa Ward and neighboring Ichikawa city in Chiba. .

People are spread out along the riverbank of Edogawa River. Held on the first Sat. of Aug. at 7:15 pm to 8:25 pm. If weather is bad, it is held on the next day
