In March 2018, after undergoing major renovations and floor expansion, the museum reopened with a much larger floor space and more exhibits. The museum's name also added "Gifu" to indicate Gifu Prefecture's co-operation and ownership. The museum's nickname is "Sorahaku" (空宙博).
