OGAWA Gesshu 小川 月舟 (1891.12.1-1967.11.16) Onomichi, Hiroshima Pref. Created beautiful portraits, landscapes, and still lifes based on traditional Japanese aesthetics while incorporating a modern feel.

Aspired to become a painter and entered Tokyo Univ. of Fine Arts (Tokyo Geidai). Dropped out and switched to photography.

Opened a portrait studio in Osaka in 1927. Exhibited in Japan and overseas. Received several awards.

Chairman of the Kansai Photographers Association (Kansai Shashin-ka Rengo-kai) in 1948 when it was established. (2000.12.15)
