It has Japan's 4th largest city in Nagoya, which is also the prefectural capital and the largest city in central Japan between the Kanto and Kansai regions. Nagoya is often the first stop on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line's Hikari and Nozomi trains from Tokyo.

It was also the host of the successful Aichi Expo held in 2005.
