Opened in 1958, Tama Zoo is one of Japan's largest zoos on par with Ueno Zoo in Tokyo. Officially named the Tama Zoological Park, the zoo is spread over a very large and spacious area.
td054-20090612_0298.jpg
The zoo consists of several areas such as the African Zone, Asian Zone, and the popular Australian Zone where the Koala House is.

On Oct. 25, 2008, a baby kola was born. It finally appeared from its mother's pocket in April 2009. By June 2009, the baby koala grew large enough to be cute and recognizable as it clinged to its mother's belly.
