The Yushima Tenjin Ume Matsuri (Plum Blossom) Festival is held annually from early Feb. to early March. Enjoy the sweet fragrance of the flowers and on weekends, stage entertainment can include belly dancers and Shiraume Taiko women drummers.This is the entrance to Yushima Tenjin Shrine (also called Yushima Tenmangu) flanked by plum blossoms on the right.

Founded in the 14th century, Yushima Tenjin Shrine is famous for plum blossoms and its dedication to Sugawara Michizane, the god of learning and scholarship.Yushima Tenjin Shrine is near Yushima Station on the Chiyoda subway line. Also near JR Okachimachi Station on the Yamanote Line.
