Yokojukkengawa and Sendaibori Parks 横十間川親水公園・仙台堀

Yokojukkengawa Riverside Park is long, extending north-south between the Tozai and Toei Shinjuku subway lines.
|
|
This end of the park not far from Toyocho Station is like an oasis for seasonal flowers. During lunch time, the benches are filled with company workers having lunch.

Yoko-Jukkengawa River has a volunteer group offering rides on Japanese wasen boats once a week.

The volunteer group operating the boats is called Wasen Tomo-no-Kai (和船友の会).

I thought, why not? So I proceeded to wait for a boat in no time.

Koto-ku residents would easily recognize these sights on the bus. Very well done. Too bad it's only temporary.

On weekends, swan boats and rowboats can be rented. The building in the background is Sports Kaikan, a gym and indoor pool.

Yokojukken River intersects with Onagi River here. A four-way "clover bridge" for pedestrians make it very convenient.

Walk further north and you will reach Sarue Onshi Park.

Rowers also practice on this part of the river.

This is one end of Sendaibori Park, also running along along a river. It also intersects with Yokojukken River.

Sendaibori Park is noted for cherry blossoms in late March to early April.

The park also has Koto Ward's oldest house, the former Oishi family home built over 160 years ago in the late Edo Period. 旧大石家住宅

The former Oishi family home is open 10 am–4 pm on weekends and national holidays only. Free admission. Moved here in 1996.

You can see a good example of Meiji Era household items in the house.
